When looking for inspiration for my Apocalyptic collection  English designer Gareth Pugh was a huge influence. He has such a strong dark  and sinister tone to his work which I find quite alluring. His dark world of fashion is mesmerizing but also very wearable.

When it comes to T.V or film I love anything that has some sort of costume and that isn't considered 'normal' in today's clothing. Probably because its fantasy and not real, the imagination can stretch and anything is possible. A costume can create a character and help tell the story. It holds power in a movie or T.V of fantasy, getting away from everyday normal life and escaping reality.

One of my favourite movies of all time is The wizard of oz, it has mesmerized me for as long as I can remember; it host one of the most iconic costumes in film history, Dorothy's (Judy Garland) blue and white gingham dress. As well as Dorothy's costume Glinda's costume is also iconic to the film, both charactors are good and powerful and reflect this in the costume- high puffed out shoulders similar to that of the power dressing era in women in the 90's.

One of the most successful costume designers is Colleen Atwood, she has contributed her talents to film and tv for over 30 years.

Colleen has worked with many Hollywood stars with Johhny Depp being the most frequent in several films she designed for.

She has been nominated for an Academy award ten times for best costume design and won three times with Chicago (2002), Memoirs of a geisha (2006) and Alice in wonderland (2011).

She has also been nominated for a BAFTA nine time and won 3 times with Sleepy hollow (1999), memoirs of a geisha (2006) and Alice in wonderland (2011)

I thought I would share some of her work with you throughout her career so far, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Bruno Ierullo

A few years ago I went to Toronto for a few months, I really loved the city and I would really like to go back this summer. I thought about doing an internship there instead of the uk. I think a view of different cultures in a different city will be really interesting.

I started to look up designers in the Toronto area and found an italian designer by the name of Bruno Ierullo.

I looked on his Facebook page and website and I really liked his work; It is very distinctive and unique. All his garments are done by hand to a high quality and are really beautiful.

I will keep this designer in mind and see if he does internships or even an interview for an insight into the busy fashion world.

Vogue Documentry

Earlier this week I saw an advert on Sky Atlantic advertising a documentary about US Vogue magazine; The title of the documentary was "In Vogue: The editors eye".
Last Night I watched the documentary and found it to be really interesting. The documentary was about Vogue fashion editors past and present.
The documentary was created to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the magazine; and went behind the scenes as well as showing interviews of the editors. Archived footage was shown of iconic photo shoots and an explanation of the story behind them from the editor who was in charge at the time.

 Designers such as Vera Wang ( who used to work at Vogue as an assistant) and Marc Jacobs were interviewed about their experiences and features in the magazine.

Nicole Kidman and Lady GaGa were shown in the documentary through archived footage of their shoots and interviews. I found it quite interesting but not shocking that Lady Gaga turned up to her photo shoot dressed like a white nun!.

The editors past and present were interviewed about their time at the magazine and iconic work that was created in their era. Some of the editors that were interviewed in the documentary were Anna Wintour, Grace, Grace Coddington, Polly Mellen and Babs Simpson.
Each editor told how they put their own style into their time at the magazine and each talked about how it impacted the fashion world.
At the end of the documentary all the editors were filmed having a group photo shoot done for the magazine to celebrate 120 years of vogue.
I thoroughly enjoyed this section as it was like a live time line of Vogue fashion history

 I loved the Alice in Wonderland photo shoot as its quite a way from the children's story and has a sexy, moody adult like twist on it. Its border line dark and edgy.

The story of Maralyn Monroe was tragic and I think this image captured her sorrow as it was taken by Vogue a month before she died. She never saw the printed edition.

When I began this project I searched the internet for inspiration for my collection and to see if any other designers had tackled the topic of the & deadly sins. Apart from photography and hair and make up artistry work I found very little.
America's next top model did a 7 Deadly sins inspired shoot which looked amazing. I particularly found the colour use and the way the shoot was done brilliant and thought it directed the message very well. I will consider something like this for my own shoot when I finish my & deadly sins collection.

I found a designer/stylist in New York who had tackled the 7 deadly sins project as part of a Charity fashion show. I think the individual design work is brilliant and well thought out as well as the photography. I love the depth and truth that stands out from the photographs. I will definitely be keeping this idea in mind for inspiration of my own work. I particularly like the "Sloth" photo with all the cobwebs, I think the message is very powerful and I will definitely put this in forward and try it in my own Sloth photoshoot.

I do however feel the collection is too miss-matched in fabric and style. My collection will be using of similar fabrics and print as well as similar in design. With using so many prints and colours I feel there needs to be some similarity for it to represent a collection.

I do applaud this work though as I feel each garment got the message across without any confusion.

Today I went location hunting for my Apocalyptic photo shoot. I drove around and looked at old walls, buildings and overgrown rundown scenery. i found a few different places that I like but the best one was my dads farm. There was a section in the cow shed that had a blank wall; it was rusty and dirty and would be a great back drop for my photo shoot, all I need now is some props and add ins to set my scene. I also chose this location as it has electricity, lighting, a roof and walls. all these things will help should the weather continue to be awful.
As I spent a lot of time looking for my perfect location I thought I would share my photos with you all.

The old regal cinema would have been a great place to shoot but I just found out it's due to be ripped down in the upcoming weeks.
